Referral services for Adults provided by the member institutions of the BPC are listed below. Some offer an initial consultation and assessment after which an appropriate referral is made. Further details of the service offered may be obtained by applying as indicated.

British Psychoanalytical Society: London Clinic of Psychoanalysis

The London Clinic of Psychoanalysis offer a consultation and referrals service. Consultation with Clinic consultants can be arranged and recommendations then made for further treatment, which can then be organised through the Clinic referrals service.

Frequency of sessions: By arrangement with the psychoanalyst.

Minimum fee: There is no minimum and fees are by arrangement with the psychoanalyst concerned.

Geographical Area: Mainly London and the Home Counties but some consultations and referrals are also available nationwide.

The Scottish Institute of Human Relations provides an assessment of patients and assistance in finding treatment vacancies for private psychoanalytical psychotherapy with members of the psychotherapy service working on behalf of the Institute. Arrangements covering all aspects of the treatment are negotiated directly between therapist and patient.

Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists

This Clinical Service has been set up to provide assessment of patients and assistance in finding suitable treatment vacancies for private psychoanalytical psychotherapy. Our members are holders of the Tavistock Qualification in Adult Psychotherapy (TQAP), a four year training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. The service is provided in two forms:

1. We can provide a full assessment and advise on appropriate help.

2. If a full assessment has been completed, then the Clinical Coordinator will, if possible, provide the name of a therapist with a suitable vacancy.

Area: Mostly London and the Home Counties but a number work elsewhere in the UK

wpf / The Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling – PAP Section

The Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC) is the graduate body of WPF Therapy. The Referral Service provides two alternatives:
1. Direct contact with the referrals manager who will provide a telephone consultation and then locate the most appropriate therapist for the patient’s needs as close as possible to their home, their place of work, or another suitable location.
2. Patients can directly access our website that provides an online database of therapist details with a map locator.
If there is any doubt about choosing a suitable therapist please contact the referrals manager.

Sessions: 1–3 sessions per week by arrangement with the therapist

Minimum fee: There is no minimum fee and the fee is arranged with the therapist (the referrals manager can advise as to the availability of therapists with low cost spaces)

Area: The majority of therapists are located in London and surrounding areas, although we do have members nationwide.
