Friday 8 October Symposium: 'In Treatment'

'In Treatment'

7.00pm, Cruciform Lecture Theatre, University College London, Gower Street, London WC1E 6AE

How do the writers of HBO’s award winning drama create compelling television out of psychotherapy sessions? The psychiatric advisor to the show and two of the writers discuss the challenges of putting a therapist on screen and capturing the truth of psychodynamic work without sacrificing drama.

Chair  Brett Kahr, Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Psychotherapy and Mental Health at the Centre for Child Mental Health, London; Honorary Visiting Professor, School of Arts, Roehampton University.

Justin Richardson, Psychiatric Advisor to Seasons 2 and 3 of' In Treatment'; Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.

Keith Bunin, writer on Season 2 (‘Oliver’). Keith’s latest screenwriting work includes Which brings me to you for the Oscar nominated director Susanne Bier. He is currently writing a film for Michel Gondry (The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and a television pilot for HBO.

Sarah Treem, writer on all three seasons (‘Sophie’ in Season 1; ‘April’ in Season 2) – nominated for a Humanitas award and winner of a Writer’s Guild award for her work on the show. Her recent work includes Vienna’s Amazing and Orphan Island.
