Qualifying Course

Applications for the course starting in October 2010 are welcome now

The LCP has been running a full training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy since shortly after it was founded in 1973.

The strong clinical component of the programme is underpinned by a broad theoretical base and is unusual among psychoanalytic psychotherapy trainings in that it includes Analytical Psychology as an integral part of the curriculum.

Students are encouraged to engage with the essential questions of psychoanalytic theory and practice openly and critically.

Applications are welcomed from a wide range of disciplines and working backgrounds.

Trainees who complete the course successfully become members of the LCP and registrants of the British Psychoanalytic Council

Modified Entry Programme

This course programme is specially designed for applicants who wish to work more intensively in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and to be registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council.

Applications are welcome from non- British Psychoanalytic Council trainings in Adult Psychotherapy, whose previous training and subsequent experience has not included sufficient intensive psychotherapy and clinical work. It is also open to qualified Child Psychotherapists.

Applicants will follow an individually tailored training programme aimed to further their training and clinical practice to the standard required for BPC registration

The components of the course are flexible and individually tailored according to the needs for further training. The aim is to reach a standard of training and clinical experience equivalent to the qualification requirements of the LCP Qualifying Course, which leads to BPC registration. All members of the course will work with two 3 x weekly patients with weekly supervision by a BPC supervisor.

Components of the programme may include:

Attendance at theoretical and clinical seminars
Enhanced tutorial support
Further psychotherapy with a BPC training psychotherapist/analyst
A clinical paper
